The Green Bay Area Catholic Education school system (GRACE) announces the hire of Alex Wolf as headmaster of St. John Paul II Classical School, beginning July 15, 2019.
St. John Paul II Classical School, one of nine GRACE schools, offers preschool through seventh-grade classes taught in the classical Catholic tradition and method. The school is moving this summer to its new home at St. Philip the Apostle Parish on Victoria Street in east Green Bay.
As headmaster, Wolf serves as the educational and administrative leader of the school. He will work to spiritually nurture collaboration among faculty, staff, families and parish partners, with student formation at the forefront of his efforts.
“Alex is a talented Catholic school educator with a deep faith commitment,” GRACE President Kimberly Desotell said of Wolf, who’s transitioning to GRACE after serving as principal and religious education director at St. Anthony Catholic School in Oconto Falls.
“Catholic schools have long been the center of Alex’s life. He has excellent experience teaching and leading. One of the proven aspects of his skill set is his ability to focus on a faith-filled approach to leadership and his knowledge of classical teaching approaches.”
“Alex is truly the right person to carry on the traditions of faith and academics at St. John Paul II Classical School.”
Wolf possesses a wealth of experience in Catholic education as a knowledgeable administrator, caring teacher and inquisitive student.
Since 2016, Wolf has served as principal at St. Anthony Catholic School, also in the Diocese of Green Bay. For six years prior to that he taught theology, first for three years at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco, Texas, followed by three years at Xavier High School in Appleton.
Quoting St. John Paul II, Wolf said, “Catholic education aims not only to communicate facts but also to transmit a coherent, comprehensive vision of life, in the conviction that the truths contained in that vision liberate students in the most profound meaning of human freedom.”
Added Wolf, “This is exactly the mission of St. John Paul II Classical School. It is an exciting prospect to be able to help carry out this great mission.”
Wolf’s Catholic education fueled his success as both a student and educator.
After graduating from Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School in 2003, Wolf pursued faith-based education, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology from Ave Maria University in Florida.
In addition, Wolf completed the spirituality program at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Colorado and the University of Dallas’ Catholic School Leadership-Principal Certification Program. He has published work in the international theological journal Angelicum, and he’s a recipient of the Pope John Paul II Service Award.
“Having a strong foundation in the classics, I realize how important Catholic classical education is in our modern culture,” Wolf said. “As the Holy Father stated, Catholic education is designed to provide the highest degree of freedom through the pursuit of truth.”
Wolf is eager to build upon a deep-rooted partnership between St. John Paul II Classical School and the surrounding community. He is a member of St. Mary Parish in Menasha.
